Your choice of NEW Tremec transmission
which has been re-engineered to fit inside your Jaguar
transmission tunnel and have the shift lever in the proper position.
No modifications need to be made to your car other than cutting a 3" x 4"
hole in the tunnel to allow the gear shift lever to pass through.
Transmission choices are:
TKO 500 5 Speed:
This 5 speed gearbox is rated for a continuous 550HP and 500ft/lbs torque, and
it has a low 3.27 1st gear and .68 5th gear. This is the most popular
choice for the 1981-1993 XJS HE which has a 2.88:1 rear end ratio. The low
first gear gives dramatically better acceleration without changing the
differential ratio. 5th gear is excellent for low RPM cruising above 70
mph. Top speed is increased.
TKO 600 close ratio 5 speed:
This is a close ratio 5 speed gearbox which will handle over 700HP. It has
a 2.87 1st gear and a choice of a .64 or .82 5th gear. These ratios are
best suited to cars equipped with 3.54:1 differential gears. The .64 5th
gear is excellent for efficient high speed cruising, whereas the optional .82
5th gear is excellent for road racing or other applications where you do not
want a large drop in RPM's after 4th gear. Top speed is increased.
T-56 close ratio 6 speed:
It is rated at 475 HP and 500 ft/lbs torque and has a 2.97 1st gear, .8 5th gear
and a .62 6th gear. This is an excellent choice for any XJS. Cars equipped
with a 2:88 differential (most 5.3 HE cars) will see better acceleration than
with the factory automatic gearbox, but not as good as with the TKO 500 5
speed. It is strongly recommended that the 6 speed be used with a 3.54 or lower
(numerically higher) differential. All models will have excellent high-speed
cruising ability in 5th and 6th gear. The 6 speed offers better acceleration at
speeds between 80 mph and 125 mph than either of our 5 speed kits.
